Make your own Rainbow Suncatcher for National Creativity Week 18 - 24 May 2020

For National Creativity and Wellbeing Week 2020, the Arts in Health team would like to invite you and your household to try out this fun Rainbow Suncatcher craft to display in your window at home.
The rainbow has become the international symbol of hope during the Corona Virus outbreak with bright and colourful rainbow-themed artwork springing up in windows across the world helping to convey heartfelt messages of thanks to healthcare and other key workers, as well as being a beacon of hope in the communities.
You will need:
- White paper or card
- Printer (not essential)
- Scissors
- Different coloured tissue paper (colours of the rainbow if wanting to reflect nature, or experiment with different colour combinations)
- Glue stick
- String (if you want to hang it up)
- Blue tac (if sticking to the window)
Instructions:
- Print x 2 Rainbow Suncatcher templates. If you do not have a printer, you can always draw the rainbow freehand. If drawing freehand, ensure the two rainbows are identical (i.e. draw one rainbow and then trace it to create the second).
- Cut out the white arch shapes of both rainbow templates, leaving only the thick black sections. (You should now have a rainbow shape and be able to see through the panels.)
- Roughly tear up several small pieces of coloured tissue paper and position them on your rainbow so they cover all the missing sections. Glue them in place, overlapping pieces of similar colours so you get a good coverage.
- Once you’re happy with your design, use the second rainbow shape to glue onto the back of your sun catcher, so that both sides are neat.
- Stick your Rainbow Suncatcher in your window using blue tac or thread some cotton through the top so you can hang it up.
- Enjoy your Rainbow Suncatcher in a spot where sunlight will shine through it.
